What is a Self-Projected Authority in Human Design?
How to talk out your decisions
Human Design is a mystical system of self-discovery with practical applications. One such application is following what’s called your “inner authority” to make correct decisions for your life. When you do, life just works out better.
What’s wild is that in Human Design no one is supposed to make decisions from their minds. Instead, there are seven different types of authorities. Less than 3 percent of the population has a self-projected authority. And only Projectors can have it.
If this is your authority, you need to talk things out to reach clarity about a decision. You need to verbally process out loud because hearing your own voice will bring you to your truth.
This usually involves using other people as “sounding boards.” If you do, be clear that you aren’t asking for their input and advice. It can help, however, to have your listener ask neutral questions that, like a good therapist, can help guide you to clarity faster. Or ask them to reflect back to you what you’ve said. Clarity for you comes in conversation, so don’t feel bad for being talkative!
As a self-projected authority, decision-making isn’t as immediate as designs with a sacral or splenic authority. You need to give yourself time to talk things out when assessing whether or not an opportunity is right for you.
And remember that as a Projector, your strategy is to wait for the invitation. So be sure that whatever you’re assessing, whether a new job opportunity or a potential mate, is one you’ve been invited into and not one you’re chasing after.
Trust your voice
All self-projected authorities have a defined G center (also called the identity center) connected by a channel to a defined throat center.

Anyone with a defined G center has a strong sense of direction in life and a strong sense of identity. Combine that with a defined throat center (a strong voice) and you’ve got someone with powerful self-expression!
If you’re a self-projected authority and don’t have trusted sounding boards to bounce your decisions off of, talk them out in a mirror or in a voice memo on your phone. Pay attention to the tone of your voice.
Not only do you need to talk out your decisions but you also need to listen to and trust your voice.
Let your words flow, stream-of-consciousness style. You may end up surprised by what you hear but you must trust the conclusion your unfiltered words lead you to.
Be you
With a self-projected authority, you want to be in spaces and around people where you can be fully you. Your authentic expression—you being you—is such an inspiration for others as well as a north star for your decisions.
Self-satisfaction and personal fulfillment are also a valid basis for decisions with a self-projected authority. Not only that, your decisions should bring you happiness and joy.
Questions to ask yourself
When faced with a decision, it can be helpful to ask yourself the following questions (out loud, of course):
Does this decision move me in my life’s direction?
Does it make me feel like me?
Does it make me excited or happy?
Do I feel invited in and seen by this person or opportunity?
Lastly, with a self-projected authority you have a direct highway from yourself to your expression (via one of four channels connecting the self to the throat center). This makes you hyper-sensitive to criticism because what you’re expressing, or creating, is coming straight from the core of you.
Don’t let other people’s judgment, or fear of it, shut you down from speaking your truth or expressing yourself. This is your strength in this lifetime. Be courageous.
